about us

Interfaith Contemplative Center for Spirituality and Healthcare

The Interfaith Contemplative Center for Spirituality and Healthcare was created to support the inner lives of those serving others. In shared space with Volunteers in Medicine of Southern Nevada, where health and dental care are provided without cost for those in need, the “ICC” nurtures the spiritual and emotional centers from which compassion to serve springs forth.  Open to the medical and dental staff, clients of the Clinics and seekers everywhere, the Contemplative Center offers a variety of ancient practices that  nurture interior silence, spiritual depth, and a gentle awareness of the Sacred. Engaging these  practices in community cultivates a rhythm of listening for the Sacred Spirit, drawing the soul into deeper communion with the Divine and awakening the heart to the sacred mystery present in every moment. All events are held at the Interfaith Contemplative Center for Spirituality and Healthcare, located at 4770 Harrison Drive in Las Vegas, Nevada 89121.  All are welcome at any event.

Timeless Tuesdays

Each Tuesday at 11:30, all are welcome to gather to pray together for the needs of the world, and for each other.  In the tradition of anointing with oil and laying on of hands, we invite healing and peace into our own lives and the whole of creation.  The service continues with sharing bread and wine as we remember Emmanuel – God with us.  Immediately following is a 30-mnute Centering Prayer time as we join with those on zoom from around the world praying in silence for compassion, mercy and truly restorative justice.

Going Deeper

On the 3rd Saturday of each month, from 9:30am-12:00, an opportunity for a min-retreat is offered.  Each month has a teaching focus on an aspect of the contemplative life.  The format engages the practice of Lectio Divina, meaning “divine reading” which is a meditative way of engaging sacred text. Through slow, prayerful reading , reflection, and silence, the words move from the mind to the heart and become a living conversation with the Spirit.  Led by Ken Larson and other staff from the Center, this is a beautiful introduction to the contemplative way of seeing and being in our life-world. Contact Ken Larson at khlarsonsd@gmail.com to inquire about the monthly topic as well as to sign up in-person or online for the event.

Spiritual Companioning

The ancient art of spiritual companioning is the healing work of deep listening.  Certificated spiritual companions are available by appointment at the Interfaith Contemplative Center to sit with you, and deeply listen with you for the words and work of the Sacred Spirit within you.  Companions do not give advice, and are not counselors or therapists; rather they watch and wait and wonder with you for the invitations, the intimations, and the possibilities of unfolding grace in your life – grace that heals, strengthens, and illumines purpose and meaning.  Typically, meetings are held monthly.  Spiritual companions are renumerated for the time and training they bring to these moments.  Contact Julia at soulcompanion333@gmail.com for an appointment.

Indoor Labyrinth Walk

Central to the space of the Contemplative Center is an indoor labyrinth..  Walking a labyrinth follows a single, winding path to its center and then returning along the same path. Unlike a maze, a labyrinth has no dead ends and is a tool for meditation, prayer, and reflection, helping to quiet the mind and foster a sense of inner peace. Many people use a three-stage process: releasing thoughts on the way in, receiving inspiration or prayer at the center, and then bringing back what they’ve learned on the return walk.

Singing Bowls

This experience of rest allows sound to encourage deep relaxation and energetic balance through the pure tones of Tibetan and Crystal bowls.  The reverberation of their “song” through our bodies restores harmony to body and spirit.

Interfaith Taize

Taize is a prayer service blending simple chants, silence, and varied spiritual readings to create a shared space of peace across faith traditions.  Offered monthly in person with capability of extending to others via zoom.

Zen Meditation

This practice of awakening to the present moment opens us to the reality of the connectedness to the eternal in each moment.  Many find clarity through sitting, walking and tea meditations.  This meditative practice offer stillness, focused breathing and mindful awareness.

Tai Chi and Chi Gong

The guided practice of Tai Chi and Chi Gong opens our bodies and minds to a less restricted flow of energy through slow movements and meditation, balancing inner energy with graceful flow for vitality and serenity.  Used in medical practice for thousands of years, this Eastern form of meditation is still central to the healing arts in many cultures and traditions.

Centering Prayer

Rooted in the Christian contemplative tradition, this experience of silent prayer invites the practitioner to rest in stillness beyond words and thought, opening the heart to deep inner transformation and union with God.

Book Studies

Small group book studies meet on Tuesday afternoon immediately following Center Prayer.  Varying in topics, these studies always encourage our understanding and our living of compassionate lives.  See Calendar for upcoming studies.

Special Events and Speakers

A special speaker offers a workshop/seminar annually to connect us to the work of healing within and the transformative power of compassion in our world.  Our speaker in the Spring of 2026 will be Valerie Kaur, author of Sage Warrior and other publications.  Valerie is an American activist, documentary filmmaker, lawyer, educator and faith leader.  “Revolutionary love is the call of our times.  It is to look upon the face of anyone and say:  You are a part of me I do not yet know . . . . “  Time/place/date will be found in calendar.
